Cold Front to Bring Rain and Thunderstorms to the South
A plummeting cold front is expected to bring rain and thunderstorms across Oklahoma and Texas through Tennessee and northern Mississippi on Thursday. A few storms may turn severe in some parts. Hail, gusty winds, flodding and isolated incidents of tornadoes are the biggest concerns in the region.
As per Weather.com, about 1-3 inches of rainfall is expected from eastern Oklahoma through central Tennessee during the night. Texas and Oklahoma Panhandles could receive 1-3 inches of wet snow tonight. Winds with speeds of 10-25 mph are predicted in western Texas and Oklahoma close to and behind the approaching cold front, on Thursday.
A compound upper-level storm system will produce heavy rain and thunderstorms in Central Texas over a 3-4-day period starting today.
Portions of the Austin metro region, where the South by Southwest approaches the town, are expected to receive 2-4 inches of rainfall.
Strong, southerly winds have brought in warmth and high amounts of moisture from the Gulf into Texas over a last couple of days. The wet air will fuse with the advancing storm, causing extensive rainfall in the region.
Periods of showers and drizzle are anticipated throughout the day on Thursday. There is a likelihood of thunderstorms during Thursday evening through Friday morning.
The forecasts predict the heaviest rainfall for Northeast Texas. The estimates suggest that rainfall of 8 inches could fall in the Ark-La-Tex region. Large hail and damaging winds from the thundering storm are expected in several places, including Little Rock, Ark., Shreveport, La., as well as in Austin and Dallas, Texas.
Thunderstorms and heavy downpours are expected to move toward the southeast Texas and Louisiana by Friday.
A little respite from the heavy downpour is expected on Saturday before it continues on Sunday through Monday.
